SCG was honored to receive a $10,000 grant from The Presser Foundation in celebration of its 75th Anniversary. The grants were awarded for special programs celebrating and highlighting the role of Philadelphia-born or based composers and performers in the development of American concert music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

During the 2015-2016 season, The Girlchoir will produce a concert in honor of the great Philadelphia singer Marian Anderson. The concert will feature choral performance and spoken word to outline highlights of Marian’s life and cement her legacy as a humanitarian as evidenced by her many humanitarian awards.

SCG is among a prestigious group of Philadelphia-based musical institutions to receive a grant including The Curtis Institute of Music, Network for New Music, The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Symphony in C & Astral Artists, and The Philadelphia Orchestra.

The Presser Foundation was established in 1939 under the Deeds of Trust and Will of the late Theodore Presser. It is one of the few private foundations in the United States dedicated solely to music education through undergraduate and graduate scholar awards, operating and program support for music organizations, capital grants for music building projects, and assistance to retired music teachers. Much of the grant making focus of the Foundation is on organizations and institutions in the 100-mile radius surrounding Center City Philadelphia.
