This year, Sister Cities Girlchoir has the exciting opportunity to perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra at Carnegie Hall as part of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s HEAR project. Composer Tod Machover is composing a symphony called Philadelphia Voices, a piece inspired and for the people and voices of Philadelphia. Machover has written other “city symphonies” for places like Toronto, Edinburgh, Perth (Australia), Lucerne (Switzerland), and Detroit. Philadelphia Voices will premiere at Carnegie Hall on April 10, 2018. SCG will join other choirs in the premiere.
Throughout the year, Machover will be visiting with SCG and other choirs in the area to help inform his writing of the symphony. On Saturday September 30, we had our first visit with the composer at our Saturday Academy! He will be making a few more return visits. In addition, SCG girls will get to visit the MIT Media Lab and work with Westminster Choir College professors and students, all in preparation for the April concert
We had a great time meeting Tod, and look forward to seeing him again soon!
